The Magpie newsletter

The Edmonton Poetry Festival has relaunched its newsletter, giving it a new name—The Magpie—and a new visual identity.

The Magpie is published monthly and spotlights, showcases, and promotes Edmonton’s poetry scene all year round,” explains EPF Executive Director Steve Pirot. “In subsequent issues of The Magpie we will be giving updates on The Edmonton Poetry Festival 2025.”

An engaging and insightful read

The Magpie is packed with features! It lists local events and contains impressive features, including competition, new collections from Alberta poets and publishers, Five Questions, Through The Poet’s Eye, and  Mixed Media.

  1. Events: Send us details of upcoming poetry events in the Edmonton metropolitan region, and we’ll feature them in a forthcoming issue.
  2. Competition: Submit a poem to our new, random draw, and it could be featured in an upcoming issue!
  3. Poetry collections: Are you an Alberta poet or publisher with a new collection? We’d love to feature it, so send us some details.
  4. Mixed Media: We share a podcast, book, article, documentary, or radio show about poetry that we’ve really enjoyed, and we think you’ll enjoy it, too.
  5. Five Answers: An Alberta poet selects from our list of 17 questions and shares five answers in The Magpie!
  6. Through the Poet’s Eye: For poets and lovers of poetry. Poets, we invite you to write about how you see the world and how this influences your poetry. Readers: For readers, share how a poem has evoked thoughts or feelings, affected your perceptions, challenged you, or comforted you.
