    Deaf Poetry Jam

    April 26, 2025 @ 7:00 pm
Felice Cafe 10930 84 Street NW, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

Rhyme doesn’t exist only in the spoken word—it emerges just as powerfully through the motion of hands and the cadence of facial expressions. The Invisible Practice is an Indigenous-informed Deaf arts collective building capacity in the local community for Deaf-centric creativity. Its artistic director, Connor Yuzwenko-Martin, defines “Deaf-centric” as “any form of expression that comes from a life lived through sign language, lip-reading, captions, and anything else that sets one outside the mainstream hearing culture.” In partnership with The Invisible Practice, a roster of Deaf artists will perform Deaf, ASL & Visual Vernacular forms of poetry! Some of these participants come from two workshops TIP is hosting with experienced Deaf artists Thurga Kanagasekarampillai and Caroline Hébert.  Doors will be at 7:00pm, followed by poetry at 7:30pm. Everyone is welcome! Accessibility Note: ASL-English interpretation is available for non-signers.   Registration: Limited and by-donation at the door. To secure your attendance, click on […]
