Raving Poets Toast 10 Years
Seeing and hearing The Raving Poets is an experience unlike any other in Edmonton. Blending live improv music (courtesy of the world-famous Raving Poets Band) with poetry, the group can be thought of as nouveau-Beat; an update on the jazz-riff versifiers of the previous century. Their usual haunt is Yianni’s Taverna on Whyte Avenue, but this Saturday they’ve got a super-special gig and I tell ya, it’ll be worth checking out.
Here are the official details:

In true Raving Poets fashion, the event will be wild and a ton of fun. There’s a six-spot open mic (chosen by random draw), a bunch of featured readers from Raving Poets history, a homecoming king and queen, an honourary first time reader, and get this, a visit from Mayor Stephen Mandel (no kidding). Of course, the Raving Poets band will provide their usual stellar arrangements behind the poets, and the event will be emceed by Mark Kozub and Michael Gravel.
This will be a helluva party, and y’all are invited. See you there!
