Teen Slam

This individual poetry competition is an opportunity exclusively for young spoken word artists. All competitors and judges will be 21 or under. Just remember it’s all about the poetry, not the points. Get ready to see Edmonton’s youth light up the mic. Lilian Allen, “a godmother of rap, hip-hop, dub and spoken word”, will perform a set at this event. Presented by the Breath in Poetry Collective.
Slam Finals

Prepare yourself for yet another night filled with high energy and poetic wizardry. This slam marks the Breath in Poetry’s 7th year of competitions that determine which poets will represent Edmonton at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word in Peterborough. The night will see the top 12 poets of the season, performing for one of 5 spots on the Edmonton Slam Team. This event sells out fast! Make sure to get your tickets in advance! This event is open to members of the Breath in Poetry Collective, The Edmonton Poetry Festival, and their guests. Memberships are available at the door. Note: The bar accepts CASH ONLY. All Star Slam

Funds raised at this event will support the Breath in Poetry Slam team as they represent Edmonton at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word. See all-stars like Liam Coady, Nisha Patel, Timiro Mohammed, and Shima Robinson (aka Dwennimen) show us what it takes to compete at the national level! Three rounds. No limits. Edmonton Slam Finals 2019
Art Gallery of Alberta 2 Sir Winston Churchill Square NW, Edmonton, AB, CanadaCome and judge Edmonton’s spoken word poets in this year’s season finale! Only the top ten poets from this year’s Breath in Poetry slam will be taking the stage to see who makes it through to win the title of 2019 Edmonton Slam Champion. The top five poets at the end of the night also take home the title of the 2019 Edmonton Slam Team as they begin their journey to nationals.
