The 2025 Edmonton Poetry Festival FINALE…
The Aviary 9314 111 Avenue NW, EdmontonYOU. Yes, you! Did you know THERE'S STILL TIME TO CELEBRATE? The 20th Edmonton Poetry Festival is preparing to hibernate for another year… but not before going out with a BANG! A POW! A splat? A buzzzzz! All the very best onomatopoeia for our poetry pals! Join us at The Aviary on April 27th at 7pm to reflect on an unbelievable festival season! We’re inviting all poetry lovers to the stage to share a poem or favourite memory from the past 20 years. Then, after selling out TWO runs of Dapper Dan’s Indian & Outlaw Extravaganza, Dan Poitras will be closing the evening as our feature reader! It’s been a phenomenal 20th season, and we should totally CATCH UP, share the love, all the good stuff — before we go our separate ways for the year! Poetry Playroom
OnlineCalling poetic kids of all ages! Join us for an hour of word play to goof around with rhymes, sounds, and partnered poem-writing. This online workshop is intended for you and your child, you and your caregiver, you and your sibling, you and your grandparent, or you and any writing pal. If you’d rather fly solo, that’s ok too! Poet and parent Kim Mannix will guide you through a few fun games and imaginative ways to approach writing poetry at any age. Registration: Limited to 12 registrants (and therefore 24 people, should everyone choose to join with their poetry partner). Deaf Poetry Jam
Felice Cafe 10930 84 Street NW, EdmontonRhyme doesn’t exist only in the spoken word—it emerges just as powerfully through the motion of hands and the cadence of facial expressions. The Invisible Practice is an Indigenous-informed Deaf arts collective building capacity in the local community for Deaf-centric creativity. Its artistic director, Connor Yuzwenko-Martin, defines “Deaf-centric” as “any form of expression that comes from a life lived through sign language, lip-reading, captions, and anything else that sets one outside the mainstream hearing culture.” In partnership with The Invisible Practice, a roster of Deaf artists will perform Deaf, ASL & Visual Vernacular forms of poetry! Some of these participants come from two workshops TIP is hosting with experienced Deaf artists Thurga Kanagasekarampillai and Caroline Hébert. Doors will be at 7:00pm, followed by poetry at 7:30pm.
