Policies Policy-Making
Current as of February 2023
Overview/Purpose
This policy establishes a transparent, consistent, and standardized approach for all policies and procedures to be collaboratively created, revised, discontinued, reviewed, approved, and maintained.
The Edmonton Poetry Festival (EPF) is committed to using Gender-based Analysis Plus (GBA Plus) in the development of our policies and programming. GBA Plus is an analytical process used to assess how diverse groups of women, men and gender-diverse people may experience policies, programs and initiatives.
Our aim is to thoroughly examine how policies, programs, and initiatives could impact diverse groups of people, with the aim of attaining better results for Poets, Audiences, and society at large by being more responsive to specific needs and circumstances.
Definitions
GBA+: The “plus” in GBA Plus acknowledges that GBA goes beyond biological (sex) and socio-cultural (gender) differences. GBA Plus also considers many other identity factors, including race, ethnicity, religion, age, and mental or physical disability.
Process
The creation of new, and the review of current, policies is the responsibility of the Policy and Governance Committee which makes recommendations to the Board.
The Board is responsible for approving and implementing all policies. Each Board member is responsible for being aware of and following the policies. Any Board or society member is also encouraged to bring attention at any time to any issues related to a policy to either Festival staff or the Board.
Review Schedule
All EPF policies will be reviewed at least every three years in order to determine if:
- Each Policy is still needed
- Revisions are needed; and/or
- There are gaps that indicate that a new Policy should be developed.
