Two PoFest Sponsored Readings Coming Up
Hey hepcats and hepkittens, I’m here to let you know about TWO upcoming reading events sponsored by your friendly neighbourhood poetry festival (that’s us). These two events are distinct, and both are awesome. Here are the freshly-squeezed details:
1. Love Letters to your Library Launches February 18, 2013
Back in the fall we made a call for submissions on the theme of Love Letters to Your Library. The four winners of that call are reading their winning work on Monday February 18 2013, 2:30pm, at the Stanley Milner Library, AV Room, main floor. Here’s a little more information on the contest and the winners.
2. Our Monthly Reading Series Continues on Feb 23, 2013
Our February 23 Cafe Series reading has been MOVED to Audrey’s Books, 10702 Jasper Avenue! 3:00pm – 5:00pm.
Join us for our February 23rd cafe series at
Cafe Tiramisu, 124 street and 109 avenue, from 3:00 – 5:00pm. Admission is $5, which includes a coffee. Open mic to follow the featured readers.
This Month spoken word poet Titilope Sonuga performs for us! Titilope Sonuga is a Nigerian-born poet living and thriving in Edmonton. At the core of her style of orature is a rhythm she borrows from her first home, a country that boasts some of the worlds best story tellers. Titi has served on the boards for the Edmonton Poetry Festival, Spoken Word Canada, The Unveiling Africa Foundation and the Canadian Authors Association Membership Society. She created Rouge Poetry, a weekly spoken word night in the heart of the City. In 2010, Miss Sonuga published Down to Earth which earned her the prestigious Canadian Authors Association’s Emerging Writer Award.
Joining her is Ben Murray whose poetry and fiction has appeared in many literary magazines, and on CBC and CKUA. His debut collection What We’re Left With, was published by Brindle & Glass. He was longlisted for The Best Canadian Poetry In English:2011 and the 2012 CBC Canada Writes Creative Non-Fiction Prize. His poetry is currently hitching rides on the ETS courtesy the Poetry Route program.
